When you’re the top wolf on the continent with the backing of the Goddess, how does an enemy topple your kingdom? By challenging you to a fight? No. By changing the rules.
After three hundred years of fighting and service to the Goddess, Silas Knight is the Patron, Alpha to the Alphas on the North American continent. As the top wolf, he fears little and has seen most things. But when he discovers someone or something has been quietly disturbing the natural order of things, he’s surprised. Certain human women have the ability to birth fully functioning wolves, and that’s a major problem.
Jasmine Bennett has no idea her deceased husband was a wolf shifter or that her twin sons are shifters. Her life changes when she rushes to her son’s bedside after he’s wounded in Afghanistan and returned stateside. Now her life’s in danger because of her ability to give birth to a breed of beings she never knew existed.
“I apologize for the mix-up, your Honor,” the doctor said in low tones. “It appears the commander in Afghanistan who normally handles these transfers was in the field. Your nephew departed with a few other injured soldiers to Germany instead of France. Later, they shipped him here. However, the attending physicians did not have a chance to look him over. I took over within an hour of his arriving. The head physician wanted to have a team examine him before approving the transfer to the specialty hospital,” the smaller man said as he walked alongside Silas.
At the last comment, Silas stopped and raised his brow.
“None of them did,” the doctor rushed to say. “I bought in another team who approved the change of venue.”
“I am disappointed with such a break-down in the system. We have people in place all over the world to prevent these incidents. . Now, I must determine if this type of thing happens frequently. After all, the military notified me because I am his next of kin. Otherwise, I would have no knowledge of the fuck-up.”
The doctor swallowed hard and followed Silas down the hall. Security had checked and approved the safety of the hospital floor. Employees glanced in his direction, but quickly averted their eyes. His long-legged stride through the sterile space signaled his frustration. His aides walked a few feet behind him, waiting for a sign to come forward. The door to his godson’s room opened as he approached.
His heart stuttered at the sight of bandages and machinery attached to the young man who was like a son to him. One of his greatest sorrows in his long life was his inability to reproduce. Cameron’s parents had been his closest friends prior to his rise as Patron, and he'd promised them to look after their son before they died in a tragic hunting accident
“Cameron,” he lowered his voice as he spoke, not wanting to frighten the younger man.
At first there was no response. Then a slight movement of his hand signaled he'd heard.
“Son, I am here. We will take you where you can recuperate faster. You need special care, Doctor Fields has already made the arrangements and you will be leaving soon.” He moved closer and touched the young man’s hand. The slight flinching beneath his confirmed Cameron heard and knew someone, if not him in particular, was with him. For the moment he had to be satisfied with that.
“We will discuss this attraction you have with dangerous situations when you are able. You promised to focus on a family, that means a mate, kids,” whispering, he leaned forward. “Pups.” He pulled a chair near the bed and sat, hand on top of the injured man’s hand and waited.
Within minutes, a gurney entered the room, and the transfer process started. “La Patron, may I have a word with you?” Dr. Fields asked with some hesitation and stepped backward.
Silas nodded.
“There is another case here that has caught my attention. I think you need to know about this one, there is an unregistered shifter –”
“He dies.” Silas retorted. “You know the rules.”
“I understand, but this is different. The shift

I get it, he's been Top Dog (pun intended) for hundreds of years so he's used to everyone falling all over him. But since he feels so superior to humans I can't help but take offence to his whole attitude to Jasmine and any 'halfbreeds' she might have. Of course, discounting that they are actually better than the fullbreeds! Anyhoo, I spent the majority of the book wanting to whap him upside his head. I realise that this book sets up the background for the series. I bought this book years ago and decided to reread it, I didn't do reviews back then but now I realise how important they are. I recommend this book and series. I really like Jasmine and her boys. Enjoy! 💙💛💜💚Product details

BirthRight La Patron Series Book 1 edition by Sydney Addae Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I grow weary of protagonists who are too kewl for school. This guy was a cold, calculating user. It turned me off. In fact, he's the kind of guy you only hope will be taken down a peg or two. The sex was as cold and heartless as the guy performing it and so the sex was a turn-off. The world the author creates was confusing and it boiled down to just another hard nosed billionaire, strutting his stuff and lording it over everyone who happened to be able to grow fur and fangs.
Just read another shifter book that wasn't as polished but I enjoyed more because the Alpha in the tale was....human and not some caricature of the "big guy."
Oh, and I hate cliff hangers. Respect your reader and your own ability and give them a complete story. If you're good enough they'll want to read book two and not just to find out what the hell should have been in the last chapter of book one.
Birthright sets the stage for learning the existence of half-breed wolves and the Patron's search for answers as to how they came to be and what it means for his full blooded wolves. A romance is hinted at between Silas and Jasmine, but it never develops in the first book leaving the reader hanging.
I received the first three books in this series free from the author. If I hadn't, I most likely would not have started reading them. I detest cliffhangers and this first book has one. The writing was good, the characters interesting, but a cliffhanger ending is a serious NO for me. Having enjoyed this book, I will continue to read the next two. Hopefully, there will be an ending somewhere.
Edited review after reading book 2 - Birth Control If the author had combined the two books to make it one, I would have given it four stars. Book 2 has somewhat of an ending and I would have gladly paid for this as one complete book. The characters have drawn me in where I want to find out what happens next. The books are worth reading as long as the reader is willing to purchase all of the books in the series.
This first book in the series sets the stage for the rest of the series and the two subsequent related series. I am sorry to say that I never left a review for this book and the rest of them but feel I must rectify that by this review. La Patron (Silas) is tasked with protecting the wolf nation of full bloods and until he, by sheer accident, finds two adult half bloods had little if anything to do with such hated and usually disposed of wolves. He meets his match in the young men's mother, Jasmine, who as a breeder (humans who can give birth to wolves) will do whatever she has to protect her sons. Jasmine's status as a breeder set of a series of events that ultimately gets her pregnant with Silas" pups, a term she hates. As the series progresses it becomes clear that there are forces who intend to develop super soldiers by kidnapping pups and experimenting on them in horrific ways and Silas and his house comes under attack from several fronts. I strongly recommending this and all the subsequent books. I just finished reading the last book (Knight/Force book 3) after rereading all books in the initial and two subsequent series and they are all fascinating. The author's imagination makes for great reading and the books are full of intrigue, twists and turns that will leave you wondering what the heck is going on. It's as much a "who done it" as it is a story about changing the feelings and actions that has driven Silas for ions. I read a lot and as much as I like many authors I have three that are my absolute favorites; Sydney Addae just became the fourth.
Let me start by saying I like this genre. The plot has the potential to be a good story but the author did not make that happen. First, the book is about twin hybrid shifters who are not only grown men, but also military. I am a mother of two boys but if I read one more time about how much they love their mommy I was going to throw up! Every other paragraph was about how much they love their mom, how much they want her to be happy, how much they worry about her, how much they want their mother's approval, or her forgiveness for doing NOTHING wrong! Gag! Next, the plot was disjointed, things happening too conveniently or for no reason at all. There was no character development, no reason for some characters to be introduced and no purpose for their existence. Even the sex scenes were bad! Its like they were written by an inexperienced 18 year old boy who thinks all a man has to do is give it to the woman hard and fast then she will have massive orgasims. I managed to plod through to the end just to see if it would pick up or go anywhere, but then it just abruptly ends! I understand and have read my share of trilogies but they usually have some kind of ending or at least a point where it makes sense to wait for the next installment. This one just ends in the middle of a scene! The next page is a note from the author saying that if you want to find out what happens next, buy my next book. No thank you! Even if it were free, its not worth my time.
