I have loved this series for years. I am enthralled with the complicated world and the beautiful traditions of junct Simes, householders and "wild Gens". I have waited long years for new material, and was thrilled to see that some long awaited works had been released. However, this was not what I was waiting for. The writing was less polished. I felt the plot was not internally consistent with themes upheld in the rest of the series. Adult themes, almost pornographic in nature, were much closer to the front in priority than in past novels. I was dissapointed, and am considering not even looking at the other released ebook works. I truly wanted to love this material. It was the first ebook I have ever bought. Again, and in conclusion, this was not what I have waited so long for.
I tried to buy this when it first came out. There was some kind of publishing screw up, they returned my check uncashed...I never got it, so when I saw it available for , I reacted immediately. It's great to order and receive what you want in minutes! The book has lived up to my expectations. I just LOVE the Sime/Gen universe! Keep on writing, guys! (Yes, I know it's mainly from two girls ;-D) Book 12 is eagerly awaited!
I have just finished To Kiss or To Kill and I found myself cought up in the loss, struggle, courage, persistence, determination and hope of characters new to me and some only slightly known. I found To Kiss or To Kill to be a thought provoking look into the spirit of man and the depth of the human soul, for good or for bad. It is not just the struggles of the individuals, but the whole of society that will impact on the future of the human race. I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful new addition to the Sime Gen Universe.
I enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed every other Sime-Gen novel and story. It was a joy to read about the bravery and struggle of the time after Unity when Zelerod's Doom was averted. You will not be disappointed with this book.
I jumped at the chance to purchase a new book in the Sime~Gen Universe and it was well worth the effort. I very seldom publicly review books that I have read, but to any reading this review, I highly recommend this book. To Kiss or to Kill takes place at the same time as Zelerod's Doom (another book in the series) but in a different location. The struggle is about changing accepted ways of behavior. In the Sime~Gen Universe, mankind has been separated with a rift as strong as the difference between men and women. The only chance for both to survive is to learn to work together, but this is against the very nature this rift has caused. Whether you are excited by this different split in human nature or not, this book is an exciting look into how love can be a very powerful force in change and pragmatism can adapt to change when needed. The main characters are Jonmair, a gen, and Baird a sime. They have several obstacles to overcome before they can finally recognize they are in love. Be prepared to shed tears of sorrow and joy as this author leads you down the path on how this change affects the lives of the characters involved. This is definitely a book that will gain more meaning in multiple readings. This will certainly cause me to dig out the rest of the books in this universe and read them again. I always find something new, interesting and exciting when I reread the books in the series and am so happy there is a new one after so long of a wait.
this has to be one of the most erotic sime~gen books I have read yet. I thought it was a fan fiction it was so erotica. After FarrisCchannel this has to be my second favorite book followed by House of Zeor.
As a long-time fan of the Sime-Gen series, I have been impatiently anticipating this novel for many years. Illustrating the fact that a fully developed universe like this one can encompass fiction of any genre, Jean Lorrah has written a Sime-Gen romance. The love story of a Sime from a wealthy family and a Gen girl, who grew up in-Territory expecting to become a Sime but established as a Gen right before Unity, grows to fulfillment against the fascinating background of the first months of Unity, when all Simes have (officially, at least) abjured the Kill. The treatment of Gens under the new laws, which require them to recognized as human but allow restrictions on their participation in society, brings to mind the Jim Crow era in the U.S. As a bonus, we get to see the Sime-Gen musical duo of Zhag and Tonyo in the early period of their career. This is a novel I'll read over and over.
I didn't think the writing was nearly as good as in her earlier sime/gen books. I did like that the book considered some of the effects of that abrupt transition on junct society. I hadn't really known what was envisaged as post-Unity dealing with the restructuring of society. For me that was the most interesting part of the book. The characters were kind of stereotyped. I didn't really get a sense of the personalities of the Householding channels, for example, and the two main characters were very typical young romantic leads. I'm glad I read it, but not sure I'll go back to it, as I do to Ambrov Keon and Zelerod's Doom.
